Patricia Hodge stars as the investigative journalist, TV presenter, writer and amateur sleuth first encountered in the famously chilling Armchair Thriller strand, 'Quiet As A Nun'. This enormously popular series, based on the novels by Antonia Fraser, also features guest star appearances from Tom Baker, Don Henderson, Bill Nighy, Brian Cox and Lysette Anthony.
Poised, determined, and possessed of a sharp intellect and a keen eye, Jemima uses her connections to pursue her own investigations - and her relentlessly inquiring mind uncovers crime and intrigue of every sort, particularly within the rarefied world of the wealthy and the privileged...
Another series I have wanted to see ever since reading the synopsis in Dave Rogers' Encyclopedia of ITV Adventure, I couldn't put the dics into the DVD player quick enough. You can't not like a series with Patricia Hodge in, and the episodes written by Simon Brett certainly couldn't fail to be watchable, but they certainly stand out from most of the others. Obviously the episode with tom Baker in is the most eagerly awaited from the series and, this too, hits the mark, but with a hit rate of approximately 1 in 3, I was a little disappointed that it didn't quite live up to my imagination - but perhaps that says more for my imagination than the show.
The episodes are:
Disc One: A Splash of Red: Part 1, A Splash of Red: Part 2, The Crime of the Dancing Duchess, A Chamber of Horrors
Disc Two: Doctor Ziegler's Casebook, A Greek Bearing Gifts, A Model Murder, Death a la Carte
Disc Three: A Promising Death, High Style, The Damask Collection, A Little Bit of Wildlife
This 3-disc set has a total running time of about 600 minutes.
