The House of Eliott – stars Louise Lombard, Stella Gonet and Aden Gillett. Created by Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins following the massive success of Upstairs, Downstairs which they also devised.
Set in the 1920s the series charts the rise of the Eliott sisters, Evangeline and Beatrice, who, after being left penniless by their father, find themselves having to earn their money. Using their talents in design and dressmaking the sisters form The House of Eliott and become the toast of fashionable 1920s London.
At the start of the second series, the success of their own fashion house attracts interest from bigger concerns and the Eliott sisters go to Paris when a leading French fashion house offers them both a job. Beatrice finally marries Jack although the business is still her first love which causes tension within the marriage. Evie falls in love with a leading government member which makes her sister furious, the business suffer and breaks Evie’s heart.
The series won millions of fans worldwide and garnered ratings in excess of ten million viewers when it was first broadcast on BBC One in 1991 and the second series attracted similar ratings during its 12 episode run on BBC One during 1992.
